Multifuncional harbor for cruise and cargo ships is planed at the cost of Boca de Yuma

Two separate piers are planed plus a highway from the pier to Punta Cana. In the future the cruise ship will no longer stop in La Romana, but in Boca de Yuma.
Unfortunately the private company does not plan a bridge to cross the river Yuma between Boca de Yuma and the pier. It seems Punta Cana/Bavaro doesen’t wants the competition that tourists will discover the beauty of Boca de Yuma. The only way to visit the Boca de Yuma from the pier will be by a shuttle boat. To keep the tourists away from Boca de Yuma they plan a Hotel with a public restaurant close to the peer and the beach.
The loser of the project will be the fishermen of Boca de Yuma, because the fish will avoid the region close to the pier because of the ship traffic and the contamination close of the harbor.

Boca de Yuma was hit Saturday 17th – til Monday 19th, September 2022 by category three storm FIONA, with wind speeds of 115mph (185km/h) and caused a lot af damage. Boca de Yuma stayed for three weeks without elelctric power, water and internet.

“Less than an hour south of Punta Cana, Boca de Yuma offers an escape to a picturesque fishing village, we evaluated the original project to see what we could achieve here that is not just the work of a dock, but to see what we could to make it a more comprehensive project that promotes tourism and that you can receive tourists, that they feel comfortable, that they can enjoy a view as beautiful as that of this Boca de Yuma riverside,” said the mayor of the municipality, Vinicio Eusebius.
“The rehabilitation of the Boca de Yuma pier would include, in addition to the breakwater, an area for docking fishing boats and a warehouse for fishermen, as well as a surveillance area”.
“A menos de una hora al sur de Punta Cana, Boca de Yuma ofrece un escape hacia un pintoresco pueblo de pescadores, nosotros evaluamos el proyecto original para ver que podíamos lograr aquí que no sea solamente la obra de un muelle, sino ver que podríamos adicional para que sea un proyecto más integral que promueva el turismo y que ustedes puedan recibir turistas, que se sientan cómodos, que puedan disfrutar de una vista tan hermosa como la de esta rivera del Boca de Yuma”, afirmó el alcalde del municipio, Vinicio Eusebio.
La rehabilitación del muelle de Boca de Yuma contemplaría, además del espigón, una zona para el atraque de los botes pesqueros y un almacén para los pescadores, así como una zona de vigilancia.

Hotel „el viejo Pirata“
The owners of the hotel el viejo Pirata died in March. Vulvio, an italian retired professional diver died after a short illness. His young dominican wife Nancy hanged herself some weeks later. This was a great loss for Boca de Yuma.
Hotel „Bocaino“ with Italian Restaurant „El Arponero“

2006 the italian Edoardo Maffei opend the little restaurant „el Arponero“ close to the harbour.
2012 he built together with Luigi Lucatello a much more attractive restaurant with hotel and pool next to the „Hoyo Zumbdor“: El Arponero and Hotel Bocaino.

Jorge Porto † had his art studio en La Romana and was living in a villa en Boca de Yuma, which was designed by him and his wife, a wanted interior designer of „Casa de Campo“.
They invited international artists to live in their house to create new art under one condition: they had to leave one piece of art in the house as a memento.

Every year in December „Los Padronales“ are celebrated in Boca de Yuma. Originally it’s a christian festival. The people carry the sculpture of Maria out of the church and take her on a little sea round trip. The following week is party time with concerts of famous dominican singers and shows with local artists. There is a lot of domican rum and beer.
Hurican George 1998
The effects of Hurricane Georges in the Dominican Republic in 1998 were some of the worst in its recorded history. Georges produced $1 billion of damage to the island and killed over 380 people. 7000 people evacuated to six shelters in the capital city of Santo Domingo
